Six M&B swimmers raced in Edinburgh over the weekend at the year-end national short course championships. Short course PBs from Calum M (100 IM, 100 Breaststroke & 50 Freestyle), Ruaraidh M (50 Breaststroke, 100 IM) and our mixed Freestyle relay (Calum, Ruaraidh, Rose, Eva) headlined a fast weekend of racing. On Saturday we had 25 swimmers and on Sunday 37 swimmers attending this very friendly, well ran meet. Over the course of the weekend M&B picked up a staggering 82 medals (31 gold, 26 silver and 25 bronze medals) as well as a further 43 top 6 placings. Saturday was the turn of the older ones 11 through to 18-year-olds and the standout swimmers at this meet were three 17-year-olds who were all smashing their personal bests through the day. As the season is coming to a close it was great to have 39 M&B swimmers competing as this meet. It was even more pleasing to see so many swimmers attacking their events and being rewarded with plenty of personal best times. A team of 22 M&B swimmers raced at the Scottish National Age Group Championships in Aberdeen last week, finishing with 1 medal, 8 finals and 3 top 10 relays. 11 year old Adam K took home a bronze medal in the 11-13 100m Breaststroke, and a 7th place finish in the 200. Calum Mac made 3 finals - finishing 6th in 50m Freestyle, 8th in 100m Freestyle and 9th 50m Breaststroke. Lexie C was 8th in 200m Breaststroke and 10th in 100m Breaststroke. A hugely successful meet for our swimmers with lots of opportunities to race and plenty of medals up for grabs. We had close to 80 swimmers competing in our first M&B March Meet for 6 years and the whole team excelled. M&B took a smaller squad of 20 swimmers to Cumbernauld as some of our Youth squad were competing in the Edinburgh International the same weekend. M&B had 7 swimmers in action at the Royal Commonwealth Pool over the weekend. Featuring a number of national and international stars, the competition offered the opportunity for the club's best to test themselves against the most competitive field on the domestic calendar. M&B travelled to Glenrothes on Saturday (14 Dec) to compete in the B final of this year's National League competition. 22 swimmers from the club contested 24 individual events and 12 relays, finishing 6th (seeded 7th) overall in a very competitive final. M&B swimmers finished the 2023-24 Scottish swimming season at the weekend, winning 6 medals and making 17 finals at the national summer championships in Aberdeen.
