REN96 Development & Mini Meets
On Saturday we had 25 swimmers and on Sunday 37 swimmers attending this very friendly, well ran meet. Over the course of the weekend M&B picked up a staggering 82 medals (31 gold, 26 silver and 25 bronze medals) as well as a further 43 top 6 placings.
Saturday was the turn of the older ones 11 through to 18-year-olds and the standout swimmers at this meet were three 17-year-olds who were all smashing their personal bests through the day. Kennedy W, Lois G & Kerr F were swimming at the top of their game breaking through personal bests, which at their age, isn’t always the case. Kerr came away with 5 golds with the highlight being his 100 free where he set a lifetime best by over 2 seconds. Lois won two golds with back-to-back personal bests in 100fly and then 100br – a pretty tough double. While Kennedy didn’t medal, she showed all the skill and determination to change her race plans and that bravery paid off with 3 pbs including a 2sec drop in her 200free.
Sunday was the turn of youngsters 12&u with many of our swimmers racing outside of the Allander for the first time. It was a long day, with the organizers extending the meet to minimize the scratches and that decision proved to be the right one with many newbies gaining valuable racing experience. A special mention to Morven G who raced both days and came away with a 10-medal haul (7G, 1S, 2B), a great way for her to finish out the season. Other golds went to Ella H in the 9yr olds who won 50bc 50br & 50fc, Lexie C in the 11yrs won her 50bc & 50br and Samuel G won the 12yrs 50bc 50br & 50fc.
A special thanks to our fantastic team managers who kept the team in check and motivated (which isn’t easy at the On-X) – they were Karyn G, Nicky W, Nicola D, Jill W & Jennifer H.
