SNAGS 2024

Lynsey Cook
M&B travelled to Aberdeen last week (10-14 April) for the Scottish Age Group National Championships. In all, 17 swimmers made the trip, competing in 49 individual races and 3 relays, finishing with 33 long course personal best times, 11 finals and 1 medal.

Hayden (2 swims, 2 finals, 1 bronze medal) led the finishers with a fantastic bronze medal in his first Scottish national championships. In a close 100m Breastroke race, Hayden finished strongly to claim the club's top finish of the week.

Grace (5 swims, 4 finals) was top contributor to team points with 4th (50m Freestyle), 5th (50m Backstroke), 7th (100m Backstroke) and 8th (100m Freestyle) place finishes, posting personal best times in four events, and unlucky not to make the podium in some extremely competitive races.

Calum (5 swims, 2 finals, 1 relay) took home 5th and 6th place finishes in the 50m Breaststroke and 50m Freestyle with excellent PBs in both.

Emily (4 swims, 1 final, 2 relays) finished the week on a high note for the team, placing 5th in the 50m butterfly final on Sunday night after dropping a fantastic two seconds from her previous long course best.

Rose (3 swims, 1 final, 1 relay) made the final in the 50m Freestyle, continuing her excellent form over recent months, finishing 7th after a pb in the heats.
Elsewhere, Annabel made a first national final (100m Backstroke - 9th place) and only narrowly missed out on a second in her 200m Backstroke after a big personal best in the heats.

The club's top 10 finishes were completed by the girls 14-16 4x100m Freestyle relay (Rose, Iona, Joanna, Emily), who smashed their entry time to finish several places ahead of their pre-race ranking.

Other notable PBs from Ruaraidh (50 & 100m Breaststroke, 50m Freestyle), Eilidh (50m Breaststroke), Mollie (50m Backstroke), Iona (100m Freestyle), Tia (100m Freestyle), Chloe (50m Backstroke), Abi (100m Backstroke), Izzi (100m Breastroke) and Kayden (100m Butterfly) rounded off a largely successful week for the team.

Congratulations to all who qualified (see full team below). A special thank you to Laura Calder (team manager) and Kris Small for helping prepare the team and organise the trip, Nick Kirk (entries) and Graham Begley for his involvement and insight in only his second week at the club - and, to all parents for their support.
